Laptop RAM Upgrade

I have a Sony Vaio laptop that I'm about to add another 256MBs of RAM to, the current chip in it is a 144 pin SODIMM, CL2, PC100. Would it be ok to put a PC133, CL3 chip in, so that both chips would run at a lower setting, or do laptops not work in the same manner as PCs?

Laptops do work in the same manner as Desktops (to an extent), but if you're going to mix up the ram, it most likely won't work. You can try it, the most that can happen is that it'll beep like crazy and not turn on... or it'll just ignore it and pretend one of them is not there. It's best to have the same type of ram- If you need an upgrade, I think the ram prices have gone down far enough for one to avoid salvaging.
