Laptop RAM

I want to add more RAM to my laptop. Are all RAM cards generic to my mother board or are there a specific type of RAM to get???

Yes and no.

If your computer takes DDR2 memory for instance, there is a generic shape for them, but not all will work. All will fit, but your board may only accept certain speeds, any higher than them it will underclock the memory, or the speed will not be utilised by the system.

It depends entirely on what laptop we are talking about here, as to what memory you will be able to use

As was said yea, yes and no, some may take a specific type of ram also in addition to speed, my panasonic toughbook takes microdimms, which are even smaller than laptop specific ram, and makes it a little more difficult to upgrade my laptop. however with the toshiba i think you should be fine with standard types of ram
