Laptop replacement LCD connector

I have a laptop that Died, and wouldn't turn on anymore. Had the dc connector replaced and the power adapter and it still wouldn't turn on. Just for fun, I took it apart to check for shorts or blown capacitors and found that it's not necessarily the motherboard, but it's the LCD display.

The laptop works fine if I unplug it from the motherboard. I can even use a VGA display on it.

My question is, if I should just replace the connector, or go ahead and get a new screen?

You mean it works fine unplugged from the LCD?

What laptop is it? If it looks like it can be replaced easily and they're available for cheap, then I'd say get a new screen.

Yes, if you unplug the LCD, the laptop works. The LCD itself would be easy to replace. But that's at least $150. (Acer Aspire). I'm thinking though that it's just the connect/wire that shorted and that would be a lot cheaper fix.
