Laptop screen is blank

I have an Acer aspire 5315 and my screen went black for no reason, even when i restart it or try a windows restore!
I just updated BIOS, didn't help
Device manager says everything's fine
Starting up my computer, the green CPU (?) light and the orange wireless light both flash
The screen isn't completely black. When I shine a light on it I can see it, as well as connecting it to another monitor via VGA.
Please help, thanks!

Sounds like the back lighting went out on the display.
Unless someone here has been through it with an Acer best bet is to google
Acer aspire 5315 backlight for more info.

But if I hit fn+F6, the backlight flickers on for a second! so the light itself isn't gone.. Should I get a new inverter?

yes, the most likely, you need a new inverter. but the backlight is dead too ocassionally.

so i bought a new screen and a new inverter. put them both in. screen works for all of startup, a few minutes after login, and flickers and dies.
