Laptop screen stays black

My laptop's screen remains black when I turn the power on for some reason. The CPU light is not lit so it's not running anything. I have tried to take out the battery, unplug the power cord, and unplug the power outlet, let it stand for an hour or so, then re-insert them, and this will fix the problem for the next hour maybe, but then the screen turns black again. Also, the moment I plug the power cord into the laptop, with or without battery, the laptop automatically turns on (don't know if this is normal). Does anyone know what might be causing this and how to fix it? Thanks.

Find the cmos batt & do a power cycle.It may be tucked under the wifi card by the HDD,not for sure.But you could check their first.After removing the cmos battery,hold the power button down for at least 30 secs.Put it back in & set time in date in your bios soon as it starts.
