Laptop Screen

Im hoping someone here can help me....

I have an IBM Thinkpad which is around 5 - 6 years old.

One night the screen went black - and stayed that way! If I tilt the screen in the right light you can very dimly see the screen, however you cannot work with it.

I can still use the laptop by using a connected flatscreen - does anyone know what might have caused this?

Sounds to me like the bulbs died out inside the screen.

Is it worth having that fixed, or should I just buy a new desktop unit?

press the fn key then brightness up or down, bulb wouldn't have died

they last for over 10 years +

Id buy a new PC too. It sounds of the characteristics of a dead bulb. They may last for 10+ years, however, some get faulty and depends how much its used for.
