laptop shuts off at bios boot screen....

sister's inspiron 5100 has been shutting off at the initial bootscreen...the status bar goes about half way, then it just shuts off..The first few times, I heard motherboard beeps, then just no sound. is it dead?! I've tried clicking f2 to go into the bios settings, but it still shuts off.

Initially, with the beeps, it could have been a harddrive or RAM fault, but now it doesnt make any noises at all... hmm, im leaning more towards the motherboard being toast....

I'm assuming its charged up and everything right?

I agree it might be a motherboard issue. If possible, I'd suggest removing extra RAM you might have or trying different RAM. It couldn't hurt to even remove the hard drive or optical drive and just see if it makes any difference. Doubtful, but I have seen drives keep a machine from completing POST.

lol sorry guys, should've kept you updated...I just left it off for 30 minutes and it's back to normal.
