I have a Dell Inspiron E1705 running Windows XP and when i do anything, or nothing at times, i hear a big fan start whiring. At this time the computer completely dies and i can barely do anything. Every is so slow and i cant stand it. Is there any logical reason for this? Is there any way i can prevent this?

Also on another note...

My internet will strangely stop. By strangely stop i mean if i am playing an online game, it will continue playing the game, or if i am talking on an IM it will continue chatting. However if i disconect from the game, i cant reconnect, or stop chatting it wont reconnect. Also during this gameplay or IMing, i can not browse, simply says, Internet Explorer cannot open page blah blah blah. Whats up with that? Please help me if you can, i would greatly appreciate it!

Sounds like you have a virus or a program eating away at your pSU.

You can run all sorts of programs to get rid of it but in the end,,if its effected a bunch of your programs the best thing to do is reinstall the OS.That will delete everything on the disk and you will have to start over loading programs and such.Be sure to back everything up when you do.

If I might make a suggestion.

Go to newegg.com and order a new ata hard drive AND order a external case for a 2.5 ATA hard drive. They have a $120 GB Hard drive on sale for $59 bucks.

Remove your old HD from the case and install the new HD.No big deal there. Now load your OS onto the new HD .This will give you a clean install.

Now you simply take your old hd and put it in the enclosed case.It plugs into your USB port and you can view all your old files off that.

I would run AVast on your drive while its still in there first before using it as a external drive.

That is a pretty major suggestion. Sounds like a scapegoat. Blamming everything on a virus is a very easy way out. There is no other posibilities?

I agree.

I'm not sure what it is...but with the fan speeding up all of a sudden, and then the computer turning off almost sounds like a CPU overheat imo.

I may be wrong.

If he has a virus,it could be one that is taking over his CPU running it up and over heating it.

Hit control Alt Delete and watch it.See if there is a program running that is taking up a large amount of the CPU recourses.IF there is one,,turn it off and see how the unit performs.

the fan comes on to dissapate the heat from the cpu when cpu activity increases. logically when you max out your cpu your computer will slow down. go to task manager and find out what it is. could be faulty program or driver. in that case a reinstallation of that program or a driver upgrade may work.

another good possibility was the one given to you. the virus

replace the USER for allowing the virus to get there? :P
