Laptop - sound card?

Hi, I currently have an alienware 9750 and before i reinstalled windows vista, I was able to use my laptops built in mic to talk to others. However after reinstalling my vista I can no longer use it, and my friends can not hear me. Does anyone know the problem? did I miss out on a sound card drive update? If so which 1 is it?

Check your device manager and see if there are any yellow question marks or other yellow signs next to any of the drivers.
