I wiped my computer and reinstalled my OS. It is win xp pro sp3. I started fresh and only added Microsoft Security Essentials, iTunes, Office 03, Google Chrome, and the drivers for my cards and stuff. It is faster, but still pretty slow. How should i speed it up? I need to disable my services. Which of these should i disable?

Also, what RAM can i use? I know it is ddr2, but its for the laptop so i wasnt to sure. Any tips?

Thanks,

I am now running a defrag and downloaded cc helper or cleaner whichever it is. Im going to run a registry cleaner soon

All of them. And everything in Startup too. If you find out later that you need a process running on startup, you can always run msconfig again and recheck it. Go ahead and run CCleaner too, and remove any broken registry entries - if you've installed programs and updates, it will likely find something.

The computer in your signature takes 200-pin SODIMM DDR2 PC2-5300 RAM. Any of these should work: http://www.google.com/products?q=20...esult_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CCQQrQQwAA

It can hold up to 2GB, and you're running 512MB RAM with a 1.7GHz processor. If you upgrade to 2GB (roughly $50-$60) you should see dramatic improvement in your computers speed and responsiveness.

I have 2 ddr2 256 mb installed. should i just buy 2 gbs and take on out? If its only able to hold 2gb, it wont matter if the extra 256 is there will it? also will this work?

Buy two 1GB sticks, as there are only 2 slots - and they don't make a 2GB stick that would work with your system.

thought you had a database

Nope. But lots of sites do, and they publish the data for free, all you've got to do is type in the appropriate search query and you can find an answer for just about anything. I <3 Intarwebz.

(Still can't find a word that rhymes with Orange or colors that haven't been invented yet, though... :( )
