Laptop Vista Downgrade Windows XP

Hey all,
I have a Sony Viao my fiance purchased 9 months ago from futureshop. She no longer uses it because shes out of school and isn't going back for quite some time. I've been using the laptop as a third computer and the performance is crap. Its a 1.6ghz dual processor and has 2 gigs of ram but its not nearly as fast as it should be! Would a downgrade to windows xp make it faster? All the hardware should work just fine in windows xp would it not?

Thanks alot,
Kevin.

No, it wouldn't make it run any faster. A computer with those specs should run Vista without any problems.

I would probably do a reinstall and only put what you need. I am pretty sure those notebooks come with a lot of useless stuff.

Another problem is obtaining XP hardware drivers. I can assure you Sony doesn't have any available - I'd be suprised if they did, at least. What's the model name and number of your laptop?

Yep, xp is better than vista. Get xp, but drivers may be a problem. Anyway, xp would make it reaaaaaallllly fast (2 gb ram on vista is not enough, is it?)

Yea its enough ram for windows vista but like I said its quite slow. 1.6 dual processor doesn't make it beter either. She did get it for 599.99 though :P.
Model is pcg-7113l and theres this other number under the monitor thats VGN-NR260D
