Laptop won't boot & BSOD

I just got my neighbor's Dell Inspiron 2650 running a P4 and XP. She told me that about two weeks ago it started randomly restarting and giving her the BSOD. She has spybot and AVAST a/v. She attempted to run AVAST and after getting about 2/3 finished it shut off on her. I have it now and cannot get it past the XP boot screen. It boots and gives me the options to start in safe mode, start normally, start with last working configuration etc. No matter which I pick it goes to the XP screen, then flashes a blue screen which isn't on long enough to read but looks like it says "IRQL not less that or equal"....at the top, something like that. Any ideas on how to proceed?

i would get a windows xp disk, pop it in and boot to it, then when you get to the main screen hit r to repair it. Then select the correct instilation. Then i would try "fixboot". see if that works at all

she does not have her xp disc or any recovery discs...Is there any way I can make one from my xp box? I do have a friend with a Dell with the included xp disc...will that work?

When I shut it off (manually obviously) it made two short beeps and a long beep and then shut off. Any reason for that?

accually... maybe. it could be the RAM infact. What i would do is turn the laptop over and find the ram door. Unscrew the screws and open it. If it has 2 memory cards in the slot. Remove both and blow on the slots to make sure they are clear and put them back in. If that does not work, remove one and boot it with one card in the slot. If that does not work, take the other one out and put the first one back in and try again.

I started it up at tapped F2 for set up and it says it has 256mb ram. I shut it off, and opened the ram on the back. I only saw 1 chip there labled pc2100 128mb. I pulled it out, restarted and it booted into windows (extremely slow mind you). I right clicked my computer and hit properties but it doesn't show any ram values. with the ram chip in, it boots to the startup, and then restarts....with it out I got into xp desktop.....do I just need a new ram chip in there?

When I took the ram chip out it said "Dimm B" underneath. I'm assuming then there is an A, but if its not there, where else would it be?

I hit F8 for and disable auto restart and got this at the blue screen
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL 0x00000000A

0x81559B04
0x00000002
0x00000001
0x804DC353
