Laptop won't boot up

My husbands laptop quite working. the computer turns on but it reaches an error message before it get's to the welcome page. what do you recommend?

If its a missing file then the installation will need repaired.

is it a blue screen? STOP error x000707070 etc..?

have a digital camera? take a screen shot of it and show us the image. or if u have the time, write it down and let us know so we know specifically what the error is and that in turn gives us a better way to pin point the solution.
