I have a Toshiba laptop with xp on it. i have a linksys wireless router. The computer connects great to the router but won't connect to the internet. My other computer connects perfectly with no problem. is there a setting on xp i need to change. i've tried both explorer and mozilla firefox.

Can you surf if you connect using an ethernet cable? I'm trying to determine whether its actually the wireless or an issue with the laptop, possibly infected.

Right, he's trying to narrow down what the problem is with the laptop, can you connect it with an ethernet cable?

I connected cable to my wireless router (Linksys wireless G 2.4) and got a connection to the internet. my other laptop works fine wireless. does that mean it's a setting?

Yes, its a setting most likely. Go into control panel, network connections, right click on the wireless connection and click on properties, then click on the wireless networks tab. Then click on the name of your network and click on remove to delete the settings for your network. Then its just a matter of resetting it back up with the correct security key. Let me know if it still don't work. Sometimes the wireless profile gets screwed up.

So if you connect a ethernet cord to your laptop and it works, then it's a router problem? We keep getting bounced and forth by our internet and computer support phone operators. They keep saying that it's the other one's problem not their own. If it's unquestionably the wireless router I will be more firm on the phone with their customer service representatives.

spoke too soon

OK. i didn't realize i still had the cable plugged in. So the computer has a strong signal to the wireless router but no connection to the motum. my other two computers see the router and the motum. just don't get it.

Unplug the cable and do what I suggested again with deleting the wireless profile for your network and try setting it back up. You can also try going to a place that offers free wifi and see if you can connect to it. If you can then its a router issue of some sort. If you can't connect to it then its a wireless card issue and you can try updating the driver for it. Or possibly it just burnt out on you.

ok i did that. still no connection to the internet however it connects to my wireless router perfectly. all my computers connect to the router perfectly. this is the only one that does not connect to the modem & internet. is there a special driver fixfor xp?
HELP!!!
