Hi all, just wondering if anyone can help me please!!! I had a wireless modem for internet plugged into usb connection on my laptop and unplugged it while the laptop was switched on! Got the blue Fatal error message. Now laptop won't switch on at all. No sign of life - no lights come on even with power cable connected. Is it beyond repair or is there a way to sort this out? Any suggestions welcome.

For a start whats the make/model of the laptop?

Then what exactly does it do when you press the power button. Do you get post screen, LEDs come on, fans power up... ?

More info the better and the quicker you can find the problem.

Not sure wot make it is as I only got it on Sunday from my brother's wife!! But think its HP? Nothing at all happens when I try to switch it on. No lights or noises. Doesnt sound good I suppose!!

Ok first off is basic's. If you have a fuse in your plug/power supply lead check that. Next I would remove the battery and check the terminals are clean and not damaged. Then put the battery back in and try to power up the laptop...

Would u believe it - went home & decided to try laptop again (without checking fuse or batter) and it turned on!! Weird!! Tks 4 ur help anyway.

It's probably still a good idea to try and work out what the problem was. Something like that sounds as if the laptop overheated. Windows gets BSOD when you have heated components sometimes (from experience). Maybe you want to get out a vacuum and give the fan areas a quick suck (putting a duster over the end to catch anything flying about!)

It might just be really clogged with dust - in a secondhand laptop, its a real possibility.
