Laser or Optical??

I've always used optical, actually I'm not sure of the difference between laser and optical. I thought they were just 2 words for the same thing...

there is a difference: each uses different engines to track movement.

laser is a newer technology, and can track more than 2,000dpi, whereas an optical tracks between 400 and 800.

For removable media they would be. Let's see you have lazer printers-optical mice-lazer disks-optical drives-etc.. It depends on what the question refers to.

Oh, I see. Well I have an optical mouse right now, have had it for years. Not sure of dpi rating probly nothing fancy...

I am using a laser mouse, and its much more precise and when up to 2000dpi. Its very fast and sometimes hard to use.

Its better for gaming, ecspecially in an FPS.

I also use a laser mouse (G5), works better than optical and is more accurate. It also doesnt shine a bright red, so it doesnt light up your room when you flip it over.

I just tried it on clear plexiglass and it didnt work, but an optical wouldnt work either.

Yah my optical wont work on plexiglass either. I've used it for gaming though...never had a problem just cranking up sensitivity in the game. It's been too fast sometimes. Or do you guys mean response level? Compared to a Razer mouse it's not as sensitive to small movements, but that's almost a good thing for shaky hands like mine lmao.

No, but it does work on reflective surfaces where an optical won't I believe. For the price difference I think an optical one is more practical unless you need it for gaming, precise work, etc.

are you even able to use those in games? Looks like it would be alot harder.

It's a lot different but not harder. I can jump, open doors, pick up and drop items, and fire alternate weapons as well as fire the primary in games due to being able to double with keyboard settings seen in the same games. Well some games won't allow assigning more then one key or mouse button. To clean it you simply push up on the track ball itself and wipe with a soft cloth along with wiping the socket clean and place it back in. It doesn't have to be moved around to move the pointer however. And you fire with your thumb not index finger. Getting used to it does take time however.
