Latency for CS:S

Hey guys, I need to know how to lower my latency. I know how to overclock my processor but im clueless on RAM. I have (2x512mb) 1gb of Buffalo RAM DDR2 667 Non-ECC with a CAS Latency of 5. When I play Counter-Strike: Source online it says my Latency is 31? I don't understand why it is so high. Can someone please help?
I understand CAS, Trc, etc.
Thanks Chris

Probably an software glitch. I wouldn't worry about it. Overclocking the CPU also overclocks the RAM. If you ram is bottlenecking then you could always downclock the RAM..

i would have thought that 31 was extremely low

i play enemy territory with like 300 on a good day

latency, or ping, is the time it takes information to reach the server your on. so it takes you 31 ms or something for the data to get there.

so the higher your ping the more lag. there are a few things you can do to make it better, but im not sure for CS. higher ping is mostly caused by the distance between you and the server

*edit* oh lol. you were talking about the ram latency.
i must read the post properly next time

haha

Hmmm, i was always under the impression that it had to do with the "lag" or "ping" of your internet connection. Not necessarily the RAM latency.
Correct me if im wrong.

lol, i'm sorry but thats a bit funny.

The latency (ping) that you see in games has nothing to do with your RAM, it's the time it takes to communicate from the game server to your computer.

@oscar, please dont post when you clearly have no idea what your talking about. That is not a software glitch. And if the RAM is bottlenecking, then downclocking would make it worse.
