$1000 for the lcd monitor, can you adopt me ;)

unfortunately, lcd monitors arent the best for gaming, and need a low response time to be any good, so its gon abe difficult to fin one with a low response time and 21" viewable screen, but ill look

You can buy a pretty kick ass 21" CRT that would be great for gaming (plus they come in bigger sizes too  ) Only problem is you need to find them, most people sell Dell OEM's and stuff like that. The really nice ones are the Acer, Panasonic, and Sony's (multisync's, multiscans, and panisyncs)

And the 21" crt's take up half of the space in my room, almost had to allocate the living room to fit it in. I just purchased a Dell 19" lcd the E193FP. It was $300 and it is a little slow when your swing your mouse in a 360 degree turn (counter strike), but other than that it is unnoticable. And it takes up very little space. :)

Acer being good must be a relatively new thing (?) and there's also Viewsonic :)

if you can live with 20.1" then it will be easy to find one. It will be hard to find a 21" with atleast 16ms response time(need 16 or lower for gaming without ghosting) for under $1000.

I have a 17" ViewSonic LCD, 8ms responce time, and I think gamming is fine. The only problem is you MUST play at 1280x1024(or the max res of the monitor in question) to get crisp images. I'm sure anyone who's used LCD's know's what I'm talking about.

I'm in a Computer Game and Design bachelors of science program. We just went over proper monitors.

A base monitor you want would be a 17” CRT capable of 1024x768 @ 85hz.

This ViewSonic G220fb Black 21" CRT (1600x1200@87hz) found at newegg is ideal for gaming (currently $429).

Obviously CRTs take up space, so if you have to go with an LCD, under 12ms response time is a must and make sure you to pay close attention to recommended resolution.
