LCD monitor and intel extreme graphics not compatible???

Hi, my friend has a computer which the display card is using Intel Extreme Graphics. The LCD monitor (don't know which brand) is still ok after re-installed the win xp, but just after installed the Intel Extreme Graphics driver and restarted the windows, a message "out of range 56.5hz - 84.9hz" displayed in the middle of the monitor.

At first, i thought it is about the monitor refresh rate...so i check it and it was 85...so i changed it to 75 (i can only choose from 85, 75, 70 and 60)...then the monitor turned to white screen with some strange colour.

i cancelled the setting and try to change to 70...i can see the window desktop but it shifts to the right, that is, the left edge of the desktop is in the MIDDLE OF THE SCREEN. then, i adjust the setting from the monitor (with auto config option) and it is ok. However, after i restart the windows the screen is still shift to the right???

Finally, i changed the monitor refresh rate to 60 and i thought it should be ok. but nope...the screen turned to white screen with some strange colour (same with refresh rate 75!!!).

Could someone please advise me what the problems might be??? display card or the monitor failure???

i took my friend's computer back home and connected to my monitor and see if it is ok...the computer booted up normally but it turned to black screen when it got to the window xp???

of course i didnt give up...i re-installed the win xp with my monitor is connected...and after installed the intel extreme driver...everything is OK!!!??? SO WHATS GOING ON??? SOMEONE TELL ME PLEASE!!! THANKS!!!
 
its not card or monitor failure. deductive reasoning tell us since you made no hardware changes and saw other effects changing software, it must be software releated. it was ofcourse the driver. i diddnt think people still had extreme edition (its not really extreme) grafics. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLO....L.. hope this helps.
 
however, when i am connecting the computer to my own monitor (not my friend's monitor), and using the same intel driver...everything is ok.

so the software may not be the problem right???

anyway, i will update the display driver from intel and see if its ok. thanks
 
hummm, then it would seem it would be the monitor, i thought there was only 1 monitor and i misunder stood first post because its all in jibberish, but its cool i understand. lemme think a sec. well this seems obvious (no dont check to see if its plugged in) check the VGA cabel pins, see if any are missing or bent. if it looks torn out then its a problem, some monitors are build missing some VGA pins, its just an empty hole, usually its a ground or a vac.
