LCD Monitor Care?

I have a 17 in Samsung SP170 LCD monitor and there is a smudge from where someone must have pointed to something on the monitor with a greasy or wet finger. I tried to wipe it with a tissue, but I felt the screen "give" and darken around the impression, so for now, I'm just dealing with it.
How can I clean it?

There are many cleaners out there that are cheap and work well. I have one taht i got at best buy for 20 bucks its massive i have had it for like a year and not used 1/3 of it and i clean every few days or so and it even came with an antistatic wipe..

i dont think it hurts your LCD if you wipe it with a fine cloth (like for glasses, lenses) and it darkens or has a rainbow effect. just press light, some pressure will do that, but it will not harm your screen. of course, if you press too hard to often you may see a side affect

remember to turn your monitor off before you do anything

this is my opinoin. i have cleaned my many monitors with a fine cloth, while its off, and have had no problems

Never use anything with ammonia (=Windex) or isopropyl alcohol in it, or else you'll fog up the screen permanently.
Here's what my ViewSonic's manual says:

"To clean the screen:
1 Wipe the screen with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth. This removes dust and
other particles.
2 If still not clean, apply a small amount of non-ammonia, non-alcohol based
glass cleaner onto a clean, soft, lint-free cloth, and wipe the screen."
