LCD monitor

Hey fellas I recently bought an LCD 19" monitor widescreen from ACER. Now I leave my PC on for long hours. However my buddy told me that he used to work at Best Buy and they were told to turn off LCD monitors when not in use because they only have 12,000 hours of lifespan. Is this true?

No. Plasma screens have a half life of 20,000 hours, and big screen LCD's have a shorter life span, but you just replace the bulb and it works again. Small lcd's dont have bulbs, they have backlights which wont go out for a very long time. But the longer you leave your monitor on the shorter it will last. I suggest if you leave it on all the time set ur pc up to disable the monitor after 30 minutes or so.

i think all monitor go into sleep mode after a period of time. i turn mine off as not to waste electricity. pluss mine over heats and i get "burnt in" images

Its not the monitors that turn themselves off, its the computer settings. And LCD has only temporary burn-ins. CRT burn-ins are permanent
