LCD Projector for school play?

SO, this is what happened. Every year, my school will have a school play on certain theme, there will be dances, drama, school, and also a gigantic hand-painted backdrop. However, as for this year school play, the headmistress decided to try out the new LCD projector to project the sceneries for every act.
Now the problem is, the LCD projector is fixed to the ceiling in front of the stage. Thus, it worried me that the spot lights will be too bright for the backdrop to be seen clearly. (and the performers' shadows will block the projector) As the stage manager, i tried to explain the difficulties to the headmistress, BUT, that old lady was obstinate with her bright 'idea' and want us to come out with a solution.

I am now in pain trying to solve the impossible. Any ideas?
(BTW, this year's theme is "Romeo and Juliet, The musical"
