You get what you pay for...sometimes.

I recently bought a $5 game called XIII (thirteen) from the mall. It was best game at E3 2003 and looked cool. Turned out to be a pretty decent game IMHO. And for $5, not bad.

Then I got a $6 game called "Blade and Sword". The box was ncie and the screenshots were pretty cool, the description of the game had me thinking I'd be playing a RPG and first person game rolled into one. Since you can create your own kung-fu moves and try them and all. Plus most of the screenshots were of your charater and all.

Got it home, and OMG I was dissapointed. First off, I realized all the "screenshots" on the box were the graphically appealing LOADING SCREENS of the game. The actual graphics, suck. You can choose between 640*480 OR 800*600. WOW! Secondly, there are pretty much no options in the game. Walk around and slash your sword at zombies and stuff.

Quotes from Box:

"amazing action and breath-taking martial arts from ancient China" - OH! You mean when I click my mouse, the pixelated and blotchy main character swings his sword? AMAZING!

"140 hours of game play" - I think I'd rather kill myself. I have 0% options to make this game look better, at least give me 1024*768 and some very plain detail options!??!!??

"Full screen light and shadow effects" - Pretty much your screen shows the image (light) and the area underneath the main character is a bit darker than the rest of the ground (shadows).

Ugh, I am so dissapointed.

Beware the dangers of the bargain bin at your local gamestore. I bought an old game for the DC once for $5(Evolution World or something like that) and I thought it would be fun because it's an RPG...turned out to be crap, I couldn't stand playing it for more than 5 min.

will take some today. i believe the "make your own kung-fu" is the process of gaining skill points and just obtaining the blocks that increase your damage. the "make your own" part is when you can fill the blocks up in any order  you still get teh same moves though...

Usually the games that allow you to make your own moves dont turn out to great unless you can make moves like path of neo or your character can look like ones from Soul Calibur 3.

Not my screenshots, but just the same.

Now you may be thinking, "that doesn't look TOO bad" but just imagine that image stretched across a widescreen 15.4" screen. Or even your 17"-20" monitor. yah its terrible.

I mean, maybe if it was made for windows 98 or something?

It's a veryold game, thats why, you may as well complain about starcraft graphics.

Very old? Not really. I believe it was released in 2004, as all the "sneak peeks" and "previews" for it happened in 2003. So that's 2, MAYBE 3 years old. Definetly could have done better. Compare it to other 2003/2004 games, hell compare it to some 1998 games lmao.

Looks like it uses the original Diablo engine...

I read a review they either were or almost were sued because it was so similiar to Diablo. The interface is all the same, inventory and layout is all the same...sheesh.
