Hi.

Just wanted to know if its alright to leave a desktop running

But what I am more concerened about is leaving a laptop running 24/7, I have a Hp pavilion dv5-1134TX with chill mat.

Would this be okay?

thanks

Shouldn't be a problem really just make sure that you actively check both for dust at least every two weeks. With the laptop, use it unplugged until the battery is at 40% charge, plug the power adapter in, take the battery out, and throw it in the freezer. This will help prolong the battery life, see this article: http://batteryuniversity.com/parttwo-34.htm.

i dont think it will damage the desktop pc but a laptop i would be inclined to turn off and on as it will refresh the ram cool the components and so on

(just my opinion)

The article said throw it in the refrigerator, not freezer.

that is what he said that's why.

Lowering the temperature in a battery slows down the chemical reaction that creates the electrons that flow between the negative and positive ends of the battery. It also slows does the "leakage" of electrons between the ends while it is not being used. Thus, since battery life is based on a number of cycles of electron creation and movement, cooling the battery will prolong battery life.

Li-Ion batteries won't freeze until around -40oC (-40oF) so throwing it in the freezer won't actually freeze the battery. Different elements freeze at different temperatures!
