Leave your computer running.

I would leave my old pc running for weeks at a time and would turn it off for a night and continue that process and since i bought it. Now i have this new one and it was quite a bit of money and dont leave it on over night and stuff like that. Does it hurt the computer to leave it runing for a long time?

doesnt really hurt it, although it will eventully hurt your wallet. a PC of that specs idling probably takes up ~180 watts, and under load (gaming, benchmarking, video encoding, etc.) could take upwards of 450.

i just put mine in standby, dont have to wait for it to boot\saves power.

the compenents might ware out faster in the long run though.

Yeah see I had my old pc for 3 years and i left it running alot. And i never had any problems. but i really dont think i want to leave this running. I mean my cpu runs at 21C so im not worried about that but your right about the HDD and i paid 200 for it. that would be a bitch to replace. and the GPU deff runs alot warmer thatn the cpu

I leave my PC on 24/7 with F@H running all four cores' at 100%. Haven't had any problems...yet. :D

i had my old p4 computer on for 2 years with some maintenance restarts (torrenting). my current rig is on for almost a month. as long as your computer is ventilated everything will be fine.

about the hard drive i've read that it's better to have it keep spinning than to have it spin up from idle as it produces less strain.

Lol. The environment. Ive heard the same thing. Since its on it puts less strain on the drive instead of turning it on multiple times

nothing wrong with leaving your computer on. i had my old computer on for 7 years 24/7 probably 90% of the time and it ran very strong up until the day i turned it off when my new computer was built (and it still works without a hiccup). hard drive never failed, video card died after 5 years but i bought it used anyway so you never know what it went through with the previous owner. the motherboard died 3 years into it, but it was an ecs so i'm surprised it lasted that long. as far as power consumption, i don't think it's significant when your computer is just idling.

I have a PC based surveillance system in my business and it has been running strong for about 2 years now. It automatically reboots itself at 12 every night. The only problem I had was the PSU crashed on me about a year ago, but I just swapped it out and has been strong since.
