Leaving Laptop On for Long Periods

well seeing as how laptops don't deal with heat as well as desktops you have to think about that, you also have to think about your power supply and other such components that are more expensive to replace in a laptop, if you're worried about having to wait on booting up i'd just use hybernate. As for leaving it on for long periods of time it's probably not too hard on it but might shorten it's overall life expectancy.

i usually do that, my laptop ison my computer desk next 2 my window, and i leave my window slightly cracked soo cold air can hit it, but yes, a cooling pad would be a great investment..

im getting 1 sometime...

Thanks for the replies people, I'll go for a decent cooling pad I guess, seems to be the most viable option.

like what does a cooling pad do? just blow air onto the bottom of the laptop?

It sucks air away from the laptop (mine does). I have it I keep it running every second it is on unless I have to use the USB connector :P It works really well too. If I dont play with it on I know in about 2 min of playing since my comps heats up like a pan and my game slows down to about 2fps :P

I had to replace it once since it got messed up from running it too much. I have a TARGUS. ;) good investment.

the same thing have an outflow fan on your desktop would do, draw the hot air away from the system and helping it to cool
