Hey all my retail copy of lfs2 arrive din the post this morning, everything went really well until i saw the nice 7gb download to update it.

i only get 15gb a month and only have 2 left this month.

Is there any way to get it up and running on single player without having to update it?

I dont mind about mp till next month i just want to play single player.

Iv already installed it, and then tried running in offline mode but it says game is not ready to play.

Iv tried disabling steam from autoupdating but that function is a joke and it does it anyway.

Or am I stuck until next month?

Do you have a friend that has unlimited gb or at least a higher amount then you? If so, then take your system there to update it.

I suppose i could i ask my mate, only thing is i really wanted to play it tonight lol, im severely inpatient.

Is there no way to do it other than actually downloading the update?

If you know someone who already has L4D2 installed and updated (or for that matter any game on Steam), you can ask them to make a backup of the game on DVD(s) and you'll be able to get an updated version that way (and play the game if you have it on your Steam account).

Iv asked my friend to let me use his internet :P, so ill be taking my system up there when i get chance :D

So hopefully ill be on left 4 dead 2 soon :D:D:D

Last question does nay one know what dlc has been released for it, i used to have it on 360 but never bothered with dlc as it wasnt free, now it is i dont even know whats been released.

There has been a good bit of DLC for L4D2 on PC, and it has been all free. I can't remember what all was released. I think wiki has it all listed. There are a few campaign additions and now a couple of the L4D1 campaigns have been added.

@Masterfulks, thanks for the info

@mrjacks, do the community campaigns interfere with steam at all or can i still acess all normal servers etc?

Short answer: They won't interfere.

Long answer: The campaigns made by the community are packaged as .vpk files that can be installed using Steam. First you'll need to install the tool called "L4D2 Add-on Support" in Steam in order to be able to install maps. Community maps show up in the server/game browser and you'll be told if you need to download a map to join a server (and get a link to the map). You can also filter out non-official or official campaigns.

Ah thats great thanks, makes me even more excited to get this downloaded :P Sounds like a much better (and cheaper) experiance than xbox

I really hate how steam forces you to update, they are not alone in this, companies seem to be jumping towards a multitude of things that rely on good internet connections with no dl caps way before it has become the standard in all homes, in the UK a good few are still on dial up due to reasons beyond their control.

It annoys me immensley when i buy a game to get home and find a nice 7gb download.

dont get me wrong i love steam, but why should i HAVE to update my game?

surely as im paying for the version that was release (not the updated version) i should be able to play that if i wish, i mean it is the verson i bought from the shops afterall.

I wouldnt buy a bar of chocolate get home and let some one replace that with a carrot stick because its better for me :P
