Less ram than I have

One day I was looking in my computers system prefrences and I found something interesting. My computer says I only have 224 megs of ram when I installed a chip with 256 meg. So I'm wondering if this could be a clocking issue, well if anyone could help me that would be great.

I think its just that the missing amount is there but used for cache. like a Flash disk, if you buy a 256MB flash disk then open it with win explorer it will say there is only ~250mb free space, as the rest is used for cache and FAT tables etc.

It exactly 32mb missing which usually a sign that you have a onboard video card taking up the ram just like jesbax said.
