i have 2 ram chips, both are 512 mb (1gb), so i should have 1024. but when i look at my computer specs it says 960. is there a reason for this?

When you power your PC on, it's the thing that initializes everything then passes control over to the OS boot loader.

Usually to enter the BIOS setup you press the Del key but it's sometimes one of the F# keys. Once in the setup you should see various menus, the option to turn off the integrated video, if there is one, will be under one of those menus

If yuo have an non - integrated video card then it shouldnt be taking RAM, no matter what...

Unless...

1. Hypermemory
2. Turbocache

Mind telling us what video card you have>

He has integrated video but has added a discrete card. Unless the onboard automatically disables (which isn't normally the case) it will be taking some RAM until you manually disable it.
