Lets Talk XBOX 360 VS PS3

A new survey has just been published suggesting the overall failure rate of the Xbox 360 is 54.2 percent, while the PS3 and Wii (unsurprisingly) come in much lower.

The Red Ring of Death has been a thorn in the side of the Xbox 360 since it was released. I well remember the first reports of mass hardware failures and Microsoft’s instant dismissal that this was a major problem. The company even claimed hardware failure rate for the Xbox 360 was around 3 percent in the early days.

Microsoft eventually had to admit there was a problem or face consumer abandonment on a par with that of Internet Explorer, another much-maligned Microsoft product. So it spent $1 billion to ensure everyone whose Xbox 360 suffered a fatal attack of overheating could have it fixed or replaced.

But just how big was the hardware failure problem in the first place? Game Informer conducted a survey of around 5,000 of its readers to find out just how bad the problem was. According to Consumerist it found that the overall hardware failure rate for the Xbox 360 is 54.2 percent. The PS3 does around five times better with a hardware failure rate of 10.6 percent, while the Wii performs even better with a failure rate of just 6.8 percent.

the new 360s fail 23 % now I just read, but as of a couple years ago it was above 50%

Mine failed once, 1 day after my 1 year warrenty, had to pay 80 euros which was like 2 million dollars

This article is great too

United States sales figures

Based on figures from the NPD Group, as of 1 November 2008 (2008 -11-01)[update]:[27]

1. Wii – 13.4 million
2. Xbox 360 – 11.6 million
3. PlayStation 3 - 5.7 million

Great, so the one year anniversary of the PS3 had half as much sale as the 360 which had been out twice as long; so, basically right on par. And, like I said, I'm more interested to see how the sales trend now that the PS3 has dropped in price. Obviously there's going to be a spike in sales at the beginning, but I'd like to see what happens especially this Christmas.

Of course the PS3 sales are going to spike. Everybody already owns a 360 now there going to get a PS3 sense the price has dropped.

With downloading games and films now becoming the new thing to do on consoles, you can download a HD film and watch it on any console regardless of whether it has an extautionately priced disc drive in it or not.

Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't there quite a few PS3 games that either need to install the game first or install bits as it goes along so it can read it from memory/hard drive because it is quicker that reading from the blu ray discs. Now I am about 90% sure that I read that somewhere or got told that and that it slows the game time down, all because Sony rushed BluRay onto the console and it can't put the amount of information on the disc that is needed on screen through fast enough, either the reader, the hardware or both aren't quick enough for quite a few games.
...

Alright ay, yea didn't think of the whole downloading movies onto the actual consoles.

And I am not sure about the copy onto the HDD or anything, every time my bro gets a game for ps3 we just wack it in there and play...
