put new cartridges in my lex x-75 it began to print black on first test page and then quit tried another new cartridge had same prob. other than replacing printer any other ideas.

Stupid questions first: is the cartridge seated correctly? And you definitely took the tape off of the cartridge? You could also try cleaning the heads on the ink cartridge. Have you had any other problems printing black with the printer? Also is there a self cleaning option?

You could also try reinstalling the drivers for the printer. (It sounds almost as if only part of the page is actually getting sent to the printer, perhaps as a result of a corrupt or damaged printer driver...)

DCIS, u make more sense ,but i unistalled and reinstalled with disc now it won't reinstall.i tried on another comp. same problem, wouldn't reinstall.

Hey man, I just had to make sure, some people are....not extremely intelligent and it's something stupid, I just had to make sure, try downloading the driver from here:
http://downloads.lexmark.com/cgi-perl/downloads.cgi?lxkprod=Lexmark+X75+PrinTrio

also try this
Take out the black cart and put it into the color cart slot - do a test print - if ink comes out it is a fault with the printer

If no ink comes out then the print cart head is blocked - take it back out and damp a piece of kitchen towel with lukewarm water. WITHOUT TOUCHING the metal foil by hand - dab the printhead onto the damp kitchen towel and pull backwards gently and softly to loosen dried ink. You should see black ink on towel - if so - DRY the head gently on another piece of towel. Replace and try again.

I hope that helps.

Do you have a utility to clear out the registry? Probably the entry for the printer was left behind and is preventing the drivers from being reinstalled properly. If you don't, let us know, there a few good ones around...
