Light Laptop

Alright, my mom is in need of a light and cheap laptop.
The laptop would need to be 4/5 pounds max.

It would be best if the laptop didn't exceed $500, but I'm willing to see machines up to $900 or so.
There is no need for it to be a high spec machine, but I don't think she would want a cele or so.

We have also entertained the thought of a tablet pc.
Last but not least, we would prefer a new machine.

Thanks for all the help in advance
Bob

I don't know of any light ones right off, but just realize the ligher/smaller laptops tend to have fairly poor cooling. I know my 12" Averatec gets rather toasty at times. Poor placement of the wifi card doesn't help...

i have to say tho the_other_one that i have had bad experinces with averitec. my first laptop, the mobo fryed twice the fan was bad, and it was just a bad laptop.

I was not promoting Averatec or anything...a far call from it. Their old machines were nice, but I'm not so sure about their new ones. I was simply noting the fact that smaller laptops tend to have less ventilation and what not...

depending on how savy your mom is, you may consider a macbook. It would be at the higher end of your price range (ie 900) but a few things to consider. 12" laptop, light weight, and very easy to use and understand. OS X does make it easy for people to use, which is a plus when giving a computer to someone who doesn't quite know how to use one. Plus no chances of getting a virus and really low chance of getting malware/spyare on your system.

they weigh in at 5lbs

i was talking about the first few. i got mine like right when they came into the us and it broke a year later compleatly
