Lighting Issues

I just transfered everything on to my computer and when I installed Half Life (best game ever) I noticed that I'm unable to play because it's too dark. Now if you've ever played the game you know it's dark anyway but can't see 2 feet in front of me. I've tried playing with the monitor setting(darkness and contrast etc) and nothing has worked. I've updated my video card driver and that didn't work.

Here's the monitor and video card:

Monitor= Egro ultra VGA
Video Card= Matrox Millenium G200 AGP-english

By the way I'm on win2000 if that makes a difference.

I think that graphics card should be fine for the original Half-Life, maybe not though, I'm a little fuzzy on what the original required... Anyway, with the lighting issue, have you checked the gamma settings in the game? They will allow you to kick up the lighting in-game without having to mess with the monitor...

Yeah been there done that. I played with the gamma setting and the glare settings. Improvement has shown but not enough to play the game.

eh, i remmber i could play half life on my old 4mb intergrated...o yeah forgot to tell you that it took me 2 hours to load the ******* game :eek:

So basically I should just go out and buy a new card. Well does anyone have any suggestions as to which one to buy. I don't want to spend alot of money but I want to be able to play half life, where I can actually see what's going on.
