limewire speeds

hi when im on limewire i get very slow download speeds e.g. 5kb/s
now if i download from the net normally i get around 240kb/s.

why am i getting so slow speeds (p.s. im downloading completely legal items, freeware etc)

help will be appricieted
 
look for the number of sources of the things you are downloading, the more there are, the faster the download. If you only have one person, his upload speed might only be 5kb/s (limewire limits it) and so you will only get a 5kb/s download. If there are 20 people with 5kb/s, then you will get a 100kb/s download.
 
Another reason would be if you're firewalled...

Be carefull on Limewire there a LOOOOOT of viruses, even on MP3...;)
 
limewire sucks really bad if you dont know what your doing!!

i have lost alot of files due to virus's ive got off there-much better places to get your freeware from.

i find torrents are by far the best

or it might not be that limewire limits the upload it might just be that ur downloading form one or 2 people with dial up, just because you have high speed doesn't mean everyone else does.

people get viruses from running random .exe programs they download, porn and e-mail, that's about it.

the whole 'the internet's FULL of viruses' is just propaganda

not only that, but 99.999999% of the spyware and 'viruses' people get on their computers were put there by software they knowingly installed, and would've known they were installing if they read the full security agreement, you know, that 3,000 page description on EVERY software installer that everyone just skips over.

viruses don't just magically appear on your computer.

well for starters, get LW PRO and you can just download this from LW and you will see some super speed imcreases

then turn off some settings in options (like turn off sharing and those kinda things) and you are good to go

absolutely no virus whatsoever ever ever from LW because i am good
 
Well, Limewire runs on a port too. So opening the port it listen's to can help the speeds. Also, if you have a firewall, make sure that it is letting Limewire access the receive access to the internet.

Another thing you can do is in Limewire's settings, you could set the search results to show only broadband speeds, thus limiting the probability of you downloading from dial up or slow users.
 
I would use torrents too, i think its safer and there is a lot to choose from. download utorrent or bittorrent and use sites like www.torrentz.com or bittorrent.com to find torrents you want.
 
this thread probably should be closed because it's beginning to lead to a discussion about pirating which is in no way promoted by computerforum.com and against the rules i believe.
