Hi,
I am a newbie with windows as I was used up to now to use Unix/ linux .
I've bought an eee-pc, from which I would like to download files from the other machine I have .
The two machines are each linked to the gateway provided by my ISP .
I have set up manually a network link setting the address of the eee-pc as
192.68.0.1 and 192.68.0.2 for the other machine .
Logged as Admin (pushing F8 at startup and choosing failsafe mode with network support ) on both machines , I tried within the file explorer to double-click from the eee-pc on the icon of the other pc, that actually appears .
I get an error message stating that I don't have the right for the session required .
Does someone know how to fix that ?
And is there a way to download files from a machine via ethernet without logging in as admln ?
Thanks for your help,
Cédric

What version of xp do you have? I don't think xp home is able to do any networking. If you want to transfer files between computers you need to share them first. Just right the files and go to Sharing and Security. Set it to allow sharing and name the share.

If both machines use XP, then all you need to do is run the small office/network setup wizard on both machines and then enable sharing on the directory where your files are.

Each machine has to be named differently but needs to be on the same workgroup.

Well if your not using a router/hub/switch then you will need a crossover cable, they can be bought or made. Straight through cables will not work, you will also need to run the home network setup

really! ive never been able to get it to work with none of my computers with a straight through. not even on my most recent builds
