Linking Multiple Computers

Ok, well I had this crazy idea that instead of buying just 1 really good computer, it is possible to buy about 4 not amazing computers and then somehow link them all together. Hopefully you understand what I mean, below is the links to the computer and screen I was thinking of doing it to, well that is, if it's possible.

Computer System (buy 4 of these)
Computer Screen (buy just 1 or 4 of these)

oh and another thing, would I actually have to buy 4 screens or would you be able to link them all so that it would only be able to use 1 screen?

Well anyway, I’m sorry if I sound a bit snappy. As you may have noticed I’m not really that much of a genius when it comes to Hardware, I'm more of a software type of person. Well thank you to anyone that even reads this ;)

No, you cant hook them up all together to make a nice computer, you can network them thougyh and sharre files and stuff, but thats not what your looking for.

Oh Damn :(

Well, ok, after a long thinking session I have come to the conclusion that ill buy 1 computer but have multiple monitors :) since from what I know I have only ever seen 2 monitors off of 1 computer is that the maximum or is it possible to have more? If for you would have to buy another computer to have more I guess you would use Multiplicity, is that right? Well anyway, say I wanted 3 computer screens all in a line; would they all need separate computer systems? Ok well thanks again ;)

I heard it was possible to link computers and they all share the tasks and send it back to the master computer. That's what they have in computer farms (no, it's not a joke).

You can link them and have them share tasks or w/e, but its not like you can hook all of them up and have a super computer. There is no possible way to hook up 3 eMachines together. lol

That’s the exact thing I was thinking about doing... is that possible with a few standard computer or do they have to be of amazing standards to begin with?

You know for the average home user that would be silly. All you want after all is one really good computer by the sounds of you post. What would you be doing with these? If regular everyday activities then you want a single good computer. Besides 4 crappy computers aren't going to help you a whole lot ;).

Well, I guess you are right, I think this all started because all I wanted is something that would stand out.

Since I guess getting one good computer is a better idea, what would you recommend for the specs or pricing for an already build one?

Lastly, how many monitors could you put onto a single computer and how would you go about installing them, since normal graphics cards only have 1 monitor port don’t they? Well thanks for all the help ;)

Steve

you're wanting to make a cheap blade server. It's not going to happen. Imagine how fast data has to be transported from the memory to the processor through the northbridge. Now replace that northbridge with cat 5 cable. Thats a HUGE bottle neck. You'd be running probably around 500 mhz. That's basicly the way the crays work (but fancier) and why their clock speed is actually pretty slow.

As for monitors...you can add as many as your graphics card supports. Most good cards can support 2 or 3. High end cards can support many more.

for instance:

http://www.go-l.com/monitors/athens/features/index.htm

http://www.9xmedia.com/pages-Build_a_system/X-Top---10over10over10.html

notice how prices climb.....

WOW! Up to a 200" that is insane well at lest I know what truly does stand out from the rest, I couldn’t find the pricing though... I can guess its going to leave a major hole in the pocket though.

What would you suggest to be a good graphics card and would support them types of monitors? Or infact just any graphics card that is good, I have an NVIDIA FX 5200 at the moment.

Steve

Well, not his specificly lol...

So what exactly do you want to do, upgrade a curent computer, get a new one, hook up monitors... And whats your buget A "good" graphic card is a fairly loose term, I could tell you to go spend $600 on an overclocked 7800GTX...

i've never seen pricing for go-l stuff. However the 9-x media stuff has prices. You can get monitors alone or monitors with g-card.

Well, since I started this thread I have changed my mind a number of times, but I think the best option is to upgrade my computer that I have at the moment then hook up multiple monitors onto it, my budget well, id say in the region of £0 - £1200 more or less, ill put my specs below so if you wouldn’t mind please suggest what to upgrade and what is good, if anything.

Specs:
AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2600+
2.08GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM
115 GB Hard drive
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200
And any other information I'm not sure where to find.

I really like the go-l monitors but I may have to wait a long time before considering purchasing one of them, ill try contacting them for prices.

Thank you for all your help so far I greatly appreciate it.
