Links Selective and locking up

Today I find that a lot of links are not working and lock up Internet Explorer 9, funny though that yahoo is fast enough and Youtube works without freezing. Facebook is very slow.
I decided to try a speed test,(speedtest.net) which I have used many times. This locks up and tells me to have flashdrive 10 downloaded which I have, and also to check if JavaScript is enabled, which I do not know how to do. My system was working fine when I shutdown yesterday. So I am not able to determine if it is the network, I cannot think how my system would be selective with its link and downloads, any Ideas. I will probably switch on tomorrow and find it works OK

Uninstall version 9, it will revert back to 8 and see if your issues continue. I've already uninstalled 9 on a few machines due to issues like this.

Thanks but how do I uninstall it? It does not seem to be in the Control panel Unistall, if I go to All Programms and right click explorer, there is a function Restore to a Previous Version, using a restore point but it say 10/10/2010 this is too far to go back

Go to where you uninstall programs and on the left hand side you will see where it says show installed updates, click it then it will start showing all the installed updates. Find windows internet explorer 9 and uninstall it.

I have manage to unistall it back to 8 but the problem is still there, I will see in the morning if it works, it could be the network. As I said I cannot get the speedtest to work.
A large white box comes up where the dials should be, how do I check if Javascript is on?

You should be able to go into internet options in control panel and click on the advanced tab and click on reset button to reset IE back to defaults.

System works fine next morning, Speedtest works (on 32bit Explorer) and in fact my speed has been doubled to 6 mbs, quite a pleasant surprise.

Update, After saying it works fine this morning, it is now 14:30 and it is doing the same thing, I cannot for example open up facebook or a forum that I use Askaboutmoney.com, other forums are fine. both my computers are doing the same, the speed is fine 5.5 mps, Has anyone any idea what causes this? ISP just told me to clear my files and SSL but cannot help otherwise. My Netgear router is only about a month old

I have Norton running, I don't think it is a virus. Can parts of the www or internet be down causing me to obtain some sites OK and others not at all?
It is OK again at present

So you think you are safe just because you have nortons running? I don't think so. You may have dns issues in your router. Since both computers are doing the same thing, then either your infected or router/isp issues.

Please explain DNS issues, does this mean my ISP is not translating them?, If I had a problem with my settings or a virus, it would not work all the time, not intermittently. and as I said it is selective which site works when it is giving problems

Dns is what allows you to browse to sites. Have you tried doing a hard reset on your router? A hard resets its back to factory defaults. Go into your router setup and tell me what your dns servers are.

There is no DSN server set up. it set to >Obtain Automatically from ISP.
I read an article that I could set it to obtain from Google but cannot at present find the article

click on start, and in the search bar type cmd and hit enter.

type ipconfig /all, making sure there is a space between the g and the /, hit enter and give me the info it has under dns servers.

Thanks johnb35. I tried to print it but my limited Dos ability went years ago.
All I could see under DNS Server was> 192.168.0.1 which I think is my router. and Net BiosTcpip Enabled

Having said that the system is working fine this morning, no problems
As I understand it, correct me if I am wrong, the ISP holds data to convert a web name to an IP address, this can be taken from a differernt source if required by setting to a fixed DNS on the PC or router, could it have been the ISP messing with their database? which would explain the intermittent and selectivity problem, and that is why I was saying about an magazine article about setting the DNS to google's database.

The 192 number is your router/gateway not your dns servers. if you did the ipconfig /all then you should have gotten a bunch of different numbers and info with the dns servers being one of them.

Yes, its possible your internet provider may be having an issue. You should contact them again if it happens again. If they say they haven't had any issues then its possible you may have dns poisoning in your router.
