I bought a new Linksys router. WRT160N

The router worked at first but then it broke down. I updated the firmware to the latest version and it worked and broke down again.
I tried everything. Restore to default factory settings. Changing the network modes. But the device does not work wired or wireless with my modem. Directly connecting to my modem to my isp works fine.
But the router does not get the internet yet it receives the signals that the modem is communicating with the router. It seems as if the router and modem are not communicating correctly.
Are their any settings besides the default settings to get the router working correctly?
