Linux and Windows??

Im considering installing Simply Mepis (A Linux OS). Can I have windows xp home and linux installed on the same partition? or do i need a seperate partition for linux? And if i need a 2nd partition, how will the computer know where to boot from?

You need a second partition to install Linux on; either repartition your harddisc or get a an inexpensive 2nd disc, 8-10 GB is fine. When you install Linux, it will install a bootloader called GRUB that will allow you to choose at each bootup which OS you want to run, Linux or Windows.
