Linux free download

Could somebody recommend me the site where I could download Linux for free? I also dont know which type I should get on my PC and how to install it. If anyone could help I would be grateful..thanx
 
Yes, I could give you a link a Linux download website. But first, choose a distribution. There are many. My personal favorite is Ubuntu. Most of the linux distributions are free, but there are some (like Red Hat, or Mac OS) which are not free.

I recommend you Ubuntu because it's my personal favorite, it's easy to use (with the GUI activated :D) and it tends to lean to media files. There is also Linux Mint based on Ubuntu which also has a cooler interface.

Actually Mac OSX is not Linux. Deep at it's core, it's based on FreeBSD, but BSD is not Linux.

For new users, Ubuntu is usually pretty good. Ubuntuforums.org has lots of helpful people. Personally it's given me nothing but trouble lately, and I have no idea why, as my two years prior experience with Ubuntu was quite positive.

Another distribution to consider is OpenSUSE. Lots of people like that distro and consider it pretty good for new users.
