Okay I have rebuilt my computer. I don't have windows in it, but my question is can I use linux as my OS or do I need windows before. Thanks

You don't need windows first.

To reiterate: You do not Windows first.

I use Ubuntu, but frankly, have not been happy with the 2011 versions.

Mint is light-weight and still fairly easy to learn compared to other distributions out there.
