Hi, im a noob!

first time I install linux.
I have a hp pavillion 8754c

p3 800 mhz
256 mb of ram
3dfx voodoo 4 4500 pci

and im trying to install Suse v10.

The installation went fine till the last part. Their is a problem with the video card, im pretty sure. When I try to boot in x.windows, it goes all black.

And when im looking in the Yast manger, it says that my video card is a voodoo 5500 pci....

I cant run sax2 and im in runlevel 3.

Anyone can help me please?

I wouldn't have started out in Suse. You'll have to try onboard gfx if you have them, optherwise you might not get it to install. Unless you can interrupt the install process and add soem drivers to it's list to look for that support your card.

I'd try out Mandrake, and Ubuntu.

Never tried it lol, really I've only had experience in RedHat9 and Ubuntu. Ubuntu so far is amazing, very easy for someone who is a Linux n00b (me in a nutshell)

what i thin you should do is, run linux with a crap standard. pci gfx card and when setup etc has finished install drivers for the card you want, turn off put in gd gfx card and try that.

bacically install drivers before installation of card.

dunno if it works i am neither a linux or a driver specialist but i can help out with most stuff
