i kant find bugger all
tools and software for linux,
i love the os, but im not getting on with the side of it
no tools software or anything. the only websites that iv found that hve tools
charge money aint linux ment to be the dawn of open source ??
anyone got or know anyware i kan to tools ??
 
what are you looking for?

In ubuntu use your menus:

1) System -> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manger
2) Enter your password
3) If you are looking for something specific, press Search and what you are looking for
4) If you are just looking at what is available in...say, HTML editors...press search and type in "HTML" and look through the results.

Often I will Google search "HTML editor Linux" and find something I like, then go look for it in the package manager.

If the package manager doesn't have it, go to the site of the application and see if you can download a .deb installer for the app, then right-click on it in Ubuntu and install it.

I am running ubuntu 7.10 right now, i also like debian 4 (ubuntu is based on debian, so they are similar)

I've played with a bunch of different distro's, but I always seem to come back to one these two.
 
ubuntu is the most popular i reckon, but i had a few problems with it. linux mint was the best distro i ever tried, loved it so so much :)
