Hello guys. I have an OS / hardware problem with my Linux system - its Mint 15 XFCE 64.
The issue is, that the bottom left side of notebook gets preety hot after few minutes of running. Speciffically, the left side, near touchpad. The notebook model is Acer Aspire TimelineX 5830tg. The main piece of hardware, that is located there, under the cover is USB 3 controller (no drive connected). So i guess thats the source of the problem. On Win7 everything runs normal. Its really anoying, because the spot thats getting hot is exacly the place where you put your wrist on.

So my question is - is there any way to manually disable this device in OS ? Or even better - leave it online and enable some sort of power management ? Anybody have some experience with this sort of issue ?

Don't know if this helps but on my vaio I have noticed some distribution make my computer run a little hotter, with some the fans are always running trying to cool the machine, I decided some releases are better then others. Is this your first run with Linux mint? Have you noticed a decrease in battery life, more then normal?

Well it is also. Little to the right but yes. I've replaced it recently with a SSD, and put my HDD instead of ODD. The temperatures are also rising on linux, not on windows. I'll check it today by opening the cover, then i'll be sure.
@DMGrier
CPU runs very normal and cool. Ofc when im not doing anything CPU intensive or running dedicated nvidia card. Battery lasts preety long, not much different than Win7.

Its hard drive indeed. An SSD drive. But same issue was with HDD on that port. The disk gets very warm.
