liquid cool = lose performance?

i was lookin more into liquid cooling kits, which i understand how they work. and i'm not mechanically challenged, so i think i could install one. i have an old computer i was messin around with. so the new one i'm gonna put the chip and everything in, so figured while it's at that stage, might as well put one in. then i read that tho they keep the computer cooler they lose performance. is this true? if so, is it bad?

i'm looking to get a core 2 quad cpu, so if it lost performance, would i see any of it when i play my games?
 
yea cpu's are rated much cooler than you'll get it with a liquid cooling system and you won't lose performance until hitting that ridiculously low point... so keep it cool, thats the way to go
 
ok...i thought that sounded kinda crazy to me. HEAT is an electronics boogey man, not the other way around.

secondly...if i were to water cool it, do i need a *specific* kit? i read (again, could be absurd) that the thermal rating of a core quad gets too high for that of a water cooling kit to cool. that crazy or no?

or a socket 775 kit would work, right?
 
Yep, as long as it is socket 775 (if that is your processor).

I sincerely doubt that you'll be able to get a watercooling system that is too weak for a quad core.
 
yeah, that's the processor i'm gettin. says it's compatible with the duo and quad cpu's. 2 gigs DDR2 800 ram. 600 watt power supply. tried doing as much research before i picked out parts. just deciding on a 3d card now. 8800 if i can afford it. if not then next one down perhaps.
