I recently purcahased a Liteon shw-160p6s dvdrw drive. It was to my understanding, that is to say I was informed by the packaging at Wal-Mart, that this drive was not only able to read DVD's but write them as well. As well as being fully operational with DVD RW's.
However, Windows XP (HE, SP1), refuses to acknoledge the fact that this drive is capable of writing dvd's. It will read dvd's. It will burn cd's (it's my understanding these use different lasers). But it will not burn dvds.
Windows seems to identify the drive as a DVD-R drive. When it's quite clear, or perhaps the box lied to me, that it's a DVD-RW. The speed said something like 32x 16x 8x as pertained to DVD's, but it appears only the 32x matters at the moment, as I can't burn anything.
A little bummed out about the situation, because i intended to back up my files before I wiped the hard drive, using the burner.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
