Lmited or no connectivity issue with wireless and laptop.

This laptop that I brought to my friend's will connect to their wireless, but it comes up with "Limited or no connectivity".

I've tried renewing the IP address, but it says windows is unable to finish the action.

Part of the message that the laptop gives me along with the "limited or no connectivity" is this:
"...This problem occurred because the network did not assign a network address to the computer."

What can I do to get this laptop a connection to their wireless so I can use it?

Do they have other computers on the wireless that work? If they do, then i would make sure that you entered the password in correctly (If they have one).

My friend's laptop works perfectly fine on it. But I was talking to her mom earlier, and we're thinking their router may already be at full capacity, since they have their computer downstairs, this one, the laptop and 360 on it.

It shouldn't be full, normal network has 150 free addresses to lend out. Try deleting the network; go into wireless properties> wireless networks> and remove the network. Then connecting again

Wouldn't that require me being on THEIR computer to do that. I'm on one of the computers that is connected to the wireless router with an Ethernet cord...

Oh well. I guess I'll just have to go nights without a computer while up in the room with Ash, talking until we pass out. xd

Unless I can figure this out without touching their computer.

No, this is on your computer :P.

Go to this screen

by right clicking on your wireless adapter, going to properties. Then click on their wireless routers name, and hit remove. Then ok out and try to connect again

Nope... I removed it from the list and then connected again and reentered the password... still the same thing

"Limited or no connectivity"

i always have this problem. My desktop is 2 floors up from the router so i pretty much had to go wireless. I just tried using other software besides windows wireless connect. Try WeFi, for some reason i always stay connected when i use this for my internet, don't even know why, just try it out

Would I have to download/use this WeFi on this laptop for that to work? If so... do you have a link I could use to get to it for tomorrow morning when I work on this problem some more?

ya ya you use it on your laptop, its not a gritty firmware upgrade for a router or anything. Its like the same thing as the windows wireless connection program but it just. . . works.

Well just a question, for the key you type in, is it WEP (something like a46d29e71f9ab23b4 [does not makeup a word just random letters an numbers]) or is it WPA (could be anything like a name or anything, It could also look like WEP).

Also how old is your laptop

You may also want to try seting up a static. To do this we need to know if it is xp or vista. Also go onto your friends computer and hit start>run and type cmd
In there type ipconfig /all and write down the: Ip, Gateway, and DNS server.

It's WEP. And as for how old it is, I'm not sure... not too old, my dad bought it maybe less than two years ago... maybe two years ago?

The laptop is running on XP.
And I can get onto my friend's desktop, which is running off an ethernet from the router. Would that suffice? If so, I'll do that after I wake up.

Thanks... I'll have to use the ethernet cord to get that working on the laptop before trying it. In the morning, I have something to do!

That's weird, I haven't heard of problems with WEP, it's WPA that gives a lot of problems.

Or... do they have MAC address filtering enabled? That would stop you.

If not, the only other things i could think of would be, try upgrading the driver (The PC manufacturer should have a updated driver on their website) or it's their router. But that software is always worth a shot

Well, if it doesn't work here, not a big deal. We're leaving her mom's Friday night and going to her dad's. He has a laptop, as does she, and I can see if mine works there. If so, WE ALL WIN.

Going home this upcoming weekend.
