Radeon HD 5850 Xtreme Edition video card coming next week to replace my current card (ATI Radeon HD 5670 ). Do I need to install drivers before I put this in? Or will it work if I plug it in then install the drivers after?

The same driver is used for both cards. However, to make sure you have the latest driver uninstall the old driver software before removing the old card. Then download the latest driver from ati's website before switching out cards but do not install it yet. i would give you the link but I don't know what operating system you are running. After removing old card and inserting new card then install the latest drivers.

I have the newest drivers, I updated it all when I got my PC 2 days ago. Running Windows 7 home premium, i7 3.4 with 6 gigs of ram.

So I should just be able to plug in and go then right? (once my power supply is upgraded of course)

Hiccups can always happen so it anything does happen just uninstall the driver software and reinstall it. But yes, you should be able to take the old card out and put in the new one and go.
