Login type software

I'm looking for some software (don't really know what to call it), but some software that I can use to login members to my website. Sorry if this is a repost, kind of new to the forums and software game. Thanks
 
Do you want something where people have to create a user account, and than use the information to login? In that case you would need a sever on the side using a datbase. If you just want to create a defualt login, with a set username and passowrd tye of thing, u could do that by simply making a password field, and letting everyone use the same password/s (specified in the html code"). Other than that I dont know of any special software thac can help you do what your tyring to do.
 
Yeah, I was hoping to set up some sort of data base where people could create profiles and such, then use their username and password to login, sort of like this forum, but I was hoping I could set it up so I could keep track of people that download pictures and videos and such from my website. I'm not doing it for a business fashion or anything like that, just simply for fun, and out of interest.
 
It would probably cost quite a bit depending on what hardware you currently have, do you own your own server or are you hosted, i it a dedicated server, do you have a ccess to ODBC compliant modules on the server, this would all be stuff that you or your host would be able to tell you.

To answer above: Yes I am hosted, as for the rest I"m not sure what that even is.....lol. (I'm not real good at this yet, still learning)
