i just got a 3 button mouse (back, foward, undefined) i would like to make the middle button -open firefox-. however, the software that came with it doesnt offer that option. it offers double click, close window, etc. is there some software out there that will let me bind whatever i want to this button?

it isnt old. -that i know of- Logitech MX310. it allows some commands to be set to mid. button, just not what i want. my old mouse allowed me to set it to 'open default browser'. aslo, i got a program for gaming called joytokey. it allows you to set ANYTHING to any joystick problem, including mouse movement. i was hoping there was a similar program for mice.

The Logitech MX310 can be considered an Old mouse. I've got one sitting on the shelf. When you say middle button do you mean the wheel? or the application switch button? anyhow I cannot remember if in the settings you could do this or not but make sure the drivers for the mouse are the most recent as they add functionality as time passes.

damn. this is my third mouse in a couple of months. its the first 'wired' one, which is kinda a pain anyway. im just picky with the overall shape and functionallity of the buttons. oh well.

well if you like the MX310 due to its shape and feel then I also suggest the Logitech cordless click! Its pretty much the same exact shape as the 310 and has all the same buttons but the back and forward are on the same side (thumb). It has the same 800dpi as your MX310 which makes this one a good choice for gaming but its got the convenience of cordless. You'll find it a solid performer. It came with in my LX700 combo and I use it as a backup in case the batteries die on my MX1000.

Edit:

You can view the click! here http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/productlist/US/EN,crid=2199,showMore=1

Also forgot to mention that it makes use of sideway scroll also which can also be programed so you get an extra 2 buttons there alone.

thats the thing, one of my recent mice had wheel tilt, which was okay, until i played with it. i did enjoy surfing and doing daily things, exept gaming -which is also a daily task :D - it was kind of difficult to 'click' the wheel straight down, which is "look down the sights -aim-" in BF2. VERY important, and unfortunate because it eliminates a lot of otherwise perfect mice.

I've had no problems like that with these two mice. I click straight down all the time. I have in games programed the mouse wheel for function when I press left and right as well as straight down along with scroll down and up and have never had a problem such as the one you describe. Possibly just particuler mice? dunno.

perhaps it was just the microsoft mouse tilt function that feels so wierd. i wish i could play with one before i buy. this one will do for now however im sure i will get tired of the cord after a month or so :D
i may try the pointless click that you suggested, im gonna see if anyone else confirms that the tilt is not so loosey goosey, no offense.
anyway, i appreciate the insight. :)
